We would like to honour and acknowledge that we are on and live in Treaty
Six territory. Canada is a traditional homeland for the First Nations,
Inuit, and Métis Peoples. We acknowledge treaty six as the traditional
territory of many First Nations such as the Nehiyaw (nee-hi-yo) (Cree),
Denesuliné (dene-su-lee-neh) (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinaabe
(Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (nee-itsee-tah-peh) (Blackfoot). As we reside
and visit on this land, we honour the importance of the Treaty and our
responsibility to these communities. Through a land acknowledgement, we
have an opportunity and responsibility to reflect on the impacts of
colonialism, both historically and currently. Only through learning can we
move forward in truth and reconciliation, and to a better future together.
